Charles Rennie Macintosh in Helsinki

hiil house 1903

Andrew MacMillan is giving a lecture on the Scottish Architect Charles Rennie Macintosh at the Ateneum-sali Kaivokatu 2, Helsinki on 26.04.2006. Anyone who is interested in Finnish Jugendstil and Finnish art at the turn of the century should definitely think about attending. Macintosh was a great illustrator and interior designer as well as an Architect and being contemporary with people like Eliel Saarinen and the jugendstil style of Helsinki old town will make for a fascinating comparison. The lecture is only part of the art on silver screen series being held at the ateneum. Its a really interesting series so I have enclosed the programme of the press release below. Also see the Design Museum page on Macintosh.

You are lucky to be able to attend! Where I live is somewhat out of the way for architectural lectures. Have you been to any of the other lectures?

The lectures I wrote up are coming this month if thats what you mean’t but I’ve seen the Carlo Scarpa film before and heard Andrew MacMillan talk before also. I love going to lectures because they always motivate me and remind me why I became an Architect in the first place. The more controversial the better.
