OK after some prevaricating, I’ve added the Geopress plugin (by Andrew Turner & Mikel Maron) and updated this blog with the coordinates of all of the previously mapped posts. I now have a georss feed.

This means that anything I locate in this way you can see in google or yahoo maps. Just take a look at my feed in google maps, I have about 30 posts on the map. As far as I know I am the first Architecture blog to enable this, I think it would be great if there were more though.

Previously, I had been using two plugins to save locations and to map them. The results you could see on my map page but the plugins were never fully implemented by me and there was no way to get the coordinates out of the map. Georss is an open standard and broadcasts my geolocation information so it can be picked up by anything looking for it.

This is only the start. I need to add a category and assess how to best show geolocated posts in the blog. Also a kml feed for Google Earth is next up.

My old plugins now superseded were Geo by Owen Winkler and Plug ‘n’ play googlemap by Yoongfook.

At least I am, eer, blogging that is. My blog was featured in the Virtual Finland website. So thanks to Otto Utti and everybody there for including me on the list of best english language blogs in the finnish blogosphere! You can read the full article here.

There are some new blogs to me on the list too which I will take a look at in the next few days. I would submit a longer list too. Darren has a great blog, its the one I started reading before I came to Helsinki, it was quite reassuring too! Also some really great english language blogs by finns. For example;

Overall I think the Finnish Blogosphere in all its guises is going pretty strong!

The Magazine for Swedish Architecture is Arkitektur. But they have an excellent weblog which is worth checking out, they name checked me, so thanks guys! Mostly in Swedish, I can get some sort of idea of the content of the site from my desktop translator although it churns out much rubbish, but its worth it because the choice of projects on the blog is really good. It’s quite a refreshing attitude for a mainstream print magazine to experiment with a weblog, something that could be seen as undermining the value of the printed magazine itself. However I think that handled well it should actually improve and enrich the reader experience of the magazine to have a more active presence online than a standard magazine webpage with little content. A weblog is someting ARK over here in Finland should really think about. So much Kudos to Arkitektur I will follow your weblog as best I can, and add to my knowledge of Swedish Architecture.

So I have moved lewism.org over to wordpress. The reasons? well I want to expand the site to add a few features that can easily be done with wordpress, I like the community and would like to learn a bit more about weblogs and blogging in general rather than just logging in and writing. I have moved over with the guys at freshlypressed who have been really helpful. The move will break peoples permalinks so I’m really sorry for that but better earlier than later. Expect some new areas of this site soon, and sorry for any weirdness in the meantime. I’ll be fixing links to files and images for a while I guess, but anyway I am quite excited about the change and will be trying to take this site to the next level over the coming months.

Update: My feed path has changed also so anyone subscribing to one of my feeds should check it and resubscribe at the same address.

I have a design of sorts which has plenty of things I want to alter but is OK for now & it will be tweaked small amounts over time I think. The reason I came over to typepad was to give myself a permanent home on the internet and have the ability to play around with the content of the weblog without any real knowledge of programming languages. Now I canstart blogging again!
